9/20 December Blog Challenge: Doodle something… Anything!

So when starting this challenges I had fully intended to actually doodle something or draw something. Now I haven’t had time to doodle…. I have been too busy with my Christmas baking. I have made, 24 butter tarts, 36 cinnamon buns, 70 shortbread cookies and 133 sugar cookies.

Yesterday I spent the morning decorating 60 of those sugar cookies, and I really think it can count towards my drawling/doodling challenge.

See the evil snowman? I think he is my favourite lol! And there is one in there(middle pic near the bottom) that my 3 year old daughter did. Shh had a lot of fun! They are all super tasty- I know this because I’ve been taste testing them a little bit 😀

3/20 December Blog Challenge: Favourite and Least Favourite Foods.

Ah, a topic that will probably make me hungry just writing it.  I really love eating. Most food is so delicious, sometimes I wish that I could just keep tasting good food, without actually having to eat it – feel extremely full and possibly gaining weight. But then again… Texture and consistency is really important too… The flavour can be great.. but if something isnt the right texture in your mouth… the yummiest thing can be totally gross.

Today I am sharing a list of a few of my most favourite and least favourite things to eat.

I will start with my dislikes… Many people will tell you that I am a very very picky eater. And yeah, OK! Ill give you that to a point. I am picky, I don’t like a lot of the things that I try…. That’s right – I TRY. Most picky eaters I know, eat only their certain things and wont try anything else. I will try everything at least once. I probably won’t like it – but if I don’t give it a try, how do I know that I am not missing out on my next favourite food?!

Dislikes:

  • Mustard – It is just gross!
  • Fish – I used to really like fish… I don’t know what happened, but now I just cant stand it 😦
  • Peppers – It’s both the texture and flavour on this one.
  • Weird Cheeses – They creep me out, especially blue cheese. This one I haven’t tried… i just can’t eat mold I can see.
  • Mushrooms – besides the fact that its fungus… the texture is so not welcoming in my mouth.
  • Kale and Spinach – I will eat these, sometimes you just have to. I don’t like the flavour/texture… but if you sop enough dressing and stuff on them, they are easily consumed.

My most favorite foods…. Sometimes I think about if I could only eat one meal forever – what would it be… or my last meal? It would have to be bird and potatoes…. And I am fairly convinced that will include – but not limited to: Turkey dinners, chicken and mashed potatoes, turkey bacon and hash browns… and my favourite: Chicken nuggets and french fries. Besides my unrelenting love for bird and spuds here are a few more…

Favourites:

  • Junk Food – pop, chips, candy… ice cream!
  • Rice – This is a food that I spent the first 18 years of my life hating. Then one day I tried some fried rice and loved it… and then a while after that I tried white rice with soya-sauce… and now I love it even if its just plain.
  • Mexican- Tacos, Enchiladas ,Quesadilla.. tostitos – nomnomnom!!
  • Spaghetti – Baked with cheese… my fav is eating it the next day on toast!
  • Sheppard’s Pie – I haven’t had this for a long time… I love it with a piece of buttered bread!
  • potato bacon chowder or tomato soup with lots of pepper and crackers – NOMNOMNOM!
  • Bacon – This is meat candy!

Oh my! I need to stop, my mind is now racing thinking about all of these foods ( and I just noticed that nothing on there is really healthy… meh) and how tasty they would be in my mouth. There are more things that I really like and possibly really dislike, I should have started thinking about them days ago instead of sitting down at 730 am and expecting my tired brain to think of things. Oh well, there is only so much anyone else actually cares about knowing what I do and do not like to eat…. And maybe this has made you hungry too?

Beef Chuck Braising Ribs

I saw these at the store the other day. And I really had no idea what to do with them. But for some reason they were very cheap… like I’m talking 4$ for 4 of them. So I figured, why not. Ill bring them home and cook them, and if they taste like garbage… well that’s only a dollar each so no big deal.

So as you saw the other day, I made the Jalapeno BBQ Sauce. And because it was date night, I didn’t actually get to use it… which is too bad, because its pretty tasty.

So today, I thought lets toss those little suckers on the bbq and slather them with bbq sauce. WELLLLLLL… YUM! they were tasty morsels in my mouth. I wish that I had more. I guess I will just have to keep an eye out for them the next time I am out grocery shopping.

First impressions… Not always right.

Today was a rainy depressing day. So to waste so,e time, Darcy and I drove into the city and wondered around the really crappy mall. We had a McPaleo lunch ( basically a burger patty, lettuce, tomato, and bacon and a side of sliced apples) …(also I should add hat Darcy takes credit for coining the term McPaleo lol. Anyhow, we were walking around walmart, and I passed by the pharmacy area. I looked over and I saw these….

So I bought two to try later… We barely left walmart and Darcy said, want to try it?! I was a bit hungry so I said yeah! We can share!

The first bite I took… I thought yuck…. These are not good.

But I took another bite, it was then I realized that they are actually quite good!

I think my mind was initially expecting something else when I bit into the bar. I was expecting sweet, maybe like a typical store bought granola bar. Once I got past that and really tasted the flavour of the bar, it’s was a delicious combination of cocao and nuts in my mouth.

I would definitely buy these again. As most energy bars that aren’t Quaker, Kellogg’s, nature valley etc, they are higher priced. But if you buy LARABAR or ELEVATE ME bars, then the price of 2.79$ each wont really bother you.

I don’t know if you can read the ingredients, but basically it’s pretty good stuff.

I scream…You scream… We all scream for KETCHUP!

It would be easy to say that ketchup is my most favourite condiment. I’m pretty sure if it was legal I would marry ketchup. I love it that much! And how could you not love it? It can go on practically everything. With going paleo, I have learned that ketchup is basically red sugar. That’s probably why it TASTES SO GOOD!

Well since I can’t eat regular ketchup anymore, there is only one solution… Make some!

So I found a recipe online.

Ryan Wilder’s Wicked Easy Paleo Ketchup

Now I didn’t follow the recipe exactly. I didn’t want to make so much ketchup… What if it was crap?! Lol.

I made half a batch and I changed the vinegar to lemon juice because I guess I’m all out. LOL.

It’s not sweet at all like ketchup, and the texture isn’t as smooth. But you can taste the tomato and it is good!

My Hunny doesn’t really like ketchup… So I thought, maybe I can change his mind. So I added some spicy sauce and some chipotle. Spicy chipotle ketchup… How come someone not like that. I haven’t tried it yet, I’m waiting till he does! We will see.

Paleo breaded pork chops

I spent an hour today looking for a recipe I saw the other day. I checked my bookmarks, my history on two computers, an iPad and a iPhone. I didn’t have much luck. 😦

So, I had to wing it. And I think it turned out pretty good!

Almond breaded pork chops

I made three little pork chops and this is what I did:

In a bowel I mixed

2/3 cup of almond meal
Pepper
And any seasonings you want

Since I just made paleo mayo, I put a few dollops on a plate

I lined a baking sheet with foil and preheated the oven to 350

I then coated the chop in the mayo, the coated it in the almond meal mixture.

Repeat for all the chops, place on baking sheet and bake for 45 minutes to an hour depending on how you like it or,how big your chops are.

Yum yum yum!

Sweet potato fries

I don’t know why, but I have never been a big fan of sweet potatoes, and I guess by association, sweet potato fries. Lately with my change to Paleo, I have been thinking that I need to start expanding my palate. Perhaps foods that I once detested wont be so bad anymore.

So tonight I am attempting sweet potato fries. I don’t have a lot of experience making fries, and definitely not this variety. However, I am a big fan of carrot fries (which I will have to add on another post sometime) so I am just going to improvise this.

Since its just me, and even still it seems like a lot of fries…

1 average sized sweet potato
Olive oil
Salt
Pepper

Turn the oven on to 400 degrees

Line a backing sheet with parchment or as I am using because I’m out of parchment – aluminum foil

Peel and slice the sweet potato, I like to make things skinny because I like crispy!

Now coat the sticks of sweet potato in olive oil –Lightly! (I tossed them all in a baggie and poured in the oil and swooshed it around a bunch till everything was coated.

Bake in the oven for approx 30 minute turning half way through ( bake a bit more or less time depending on your taste preference)
